The lecture series Structural Design 1 imparts fundamental knowledge of structural engineering.
Students learn to identify support conditions in three-dimensional structures and reduce them to 2-dimensional static systems.
They are enabled to determine support reactions and internal forces of simple statically determinate systems for preliminary sizing.
Based on the support conditions, they can determine the degree of static determinacy and understand the relationship between support reactions and the degrees of freedom of movement of rigid bodies in 2D and 3D.
Through an understanding of the flow of forces in supports, beams, and structural members, they are enabled to design, optimize, and construct simple structural systems.
They acquire basic knowledge of the strength of materials and the geometric conditions of stability.
